Forget that. I’d help them make bail and I’ve never been caught by a speed camera.

I think it would be clever to mount a small mirror at the front of the camera so it snaps a pic of itself as you speed by!

Speed limits are life saving. Just because some of us can drive a vehicle at 90 miles an hour, and control it, safely, doesn't mean the majority of the public can. I see people all the time have difficulty managing 45mph. The need for regulation and limits is not arbitrary. These laws have come into play because too many people were hurt or killed in higher speed wrecks. Destruction of public property is no way to deal with a problem, or dispute. As well, when these cameras are destroyed, we as tax payers, have to pay to replace them. So this thread is advocating destroying our own property, so we can pay more taxes to replace what vandals have destroyed? The cameras aren't the problem, the people violating the laws. Do people go and shoot cops because they catch you speeding? no. Speeding is dangerous, destruction of property is still criminal. Think about it as your personal security system at your house, someone comes by and destroys them, because they would catch a burglar? So, it's ok to destroy them because they're robots.

I thought most speed camera are owned by private companies? How is this destroying our own or costing the taxpayers?

Over dramatizing things aren't we?

Speed limits are needed in neighborhoods and congested areas with pedestrians and other hazards. But most limits are placed in areas where the natural speed is often 10-15 MPH higher than what is posted. This is simply done to generate revenue for the municipality. After all if this was really about safety wouldn't you want the driver to stop the behavior immediately instead of telling him about it 45 days later by mail?

I used to work in DC a lot and many of these places with the cameras are main thoroughfares leading in and out of the city. The prevailing speeds are usually 35-45 MPH but yet they put the limits down to 25 MPH which is near impossible to follow on a four lane road. Most drivers know where the cameras are so you have people going 45 MPH then slamming the brakes to pass the camera then proceeding until the next one. What a waste - the only people who get nabbed are those from out of town which is great for the city because these are more likely to pay and not dispute.

Yes we shouldn't violate laws but in cases like this the laws are kept for the financial benefit of the governing body, not for safety.

Maybe those cameras were filming something someone did not want filmed, like crime? I would imagine it would be very easy to retrofit those cameras to actually record and monitor activity...

Some cities subcontract them out, some don't. Either way its destroying property, vandalism.

Wait til this one gets you.
Red light cameras are also utilized in capturing texting-while-driving violators. In many municipalities an officer is monitoring the cameras in a live command center and records all violations, including texting at a red light.

All cameras in Florida are owned by the camera companies and to add insult, not only do they get $75 of the $158 fine, they charge the municipality $5000 per month, per camera as a 'maintenance' fee.

sinstativ's obviously never ended up footing the bill after someone he lent his car to got recorded going 2 miles per hour over. (See, I can do it too.)
