If you need a bridge to drive your minivan on, I have a slightly used one I can let you have at a discounted price, but you’ll have to act quickly as I have several others who are interested. I’m only doing this because I’m temporarily overstocked.
I plan to add over $4,000 worth of add-ons to my new 2018 Honda Odyssey LX:
$1,335 genuine Honda Care extended warranty (VSC) for 8 years/120,000 miles with $0 deductible - transferable or refundable
$875 genuine Honda Care prepaid Maintenance plan for 4 years/60,000 miles
$1,800 worth of genuine Honda accessories (except the 3M film below):
door edge guards (to protect them them from scratches)
wheel locks (to secure them and for style reasons)
deep cargo tray (to protect the cargo area)
hood air deflector (to protect the windshield from bugs while I use a dashcam)
splash guards (to protect the car from chips and mud)
all-weather floor mats (in addition to the carpeted floor mats) (to protect the car from water and dirt)
cargo net (new leftover from my old Toyota Sienna)
side door moldings (to protect them from dings)
3M film clear nose bra on all of hood and front bumper (to protect them from rock chips)
I intend to wash and wax and vacuum the car 3 times a week under a $30/month car wash plan. I will have it detailed every 6 months for $300, including engine compartment. (These two things are not included in my total above.)
I plan to sell the car in 6 years to a private party. Will I get $3,000 extra on my offer since I have these added features (minus the prepaid Maintenance plan and waxing and detailing above)?
Did you plan on driving it?
I have this bridge...
No offense. We've all been there one way or another in life.
Nope. As a buyer, I don't care at all what dealer accessories you put on - only the packages that the car came with (pano roof, different engine, stereo, etc). Edge guards, floor mats, etc - I can buy those myself for cheaper and put them on and probably get better quality than the dealer has to begin with.
FWIW - it's been awhile since I bought a used car. My last 5 vehicles purchased were all new. Not that used is bad, but the difference between new and used wasn't all that big to begin with and nothing used had what I wanted.
Funny, I haven't bought a new car since 1973. Also have not had payments since 1975... hate those things. But I agree with the rest of what you said.
You wont get anything back on the investment. Owner will always loose. The best you can do for resale, is to keep a documented repair and maintenance records. This goes a long way in demanding more money for a used car. This might mean getting an extra thousand over another used van with no records. You wont get as much as a CPO.
