Google 2013-2015 Buick Regals for sale. You will find a large number of them in your price range. Buicks are usually near the top of the reliability lists. It is a great highway car and will get 26-30 mpg on the highway. The Regals are a near luxury sedan that Buick has not really figured out how to sell, so the secondary market is at a lower price point than the value of the car.
Get either a brand new or Certified Used Nissan Versa. Standard transmission. Nothing older than 2015 and no more miles than 10,000. $8k-$13k. Unparalleled reliability (at that price point) and manufacturer warranty.
why do you want to spend that much on a used car when new cars some are going for 18 -20 thousand ? I mean come on when you buy used you are really buying some elses problems . why not buy a new kia? they are great and reliable and my sister has one as well and the oil only has to be changed once a year according to the manuel she got with it and I was gah gah about that car and I'm going to get one soon . they are also roomy and they fit better in her garage and they are nice and a lil higher off the ground so you don't hurt your back getting in a vehicle which I have done with several other models and brands .
Thanks for the reply. I live in the northeast. I'm young but I just need a commuter car lol so boring, fun, etc. doesn't really matter. I'll check out the Miata and Volt. Ultimately, i think my decision probably will come down to a Toyota or Honda but was looking for other opinions. Thanks again!
I have (but will soon trade-in) an 09 Honda Fit with 195,000 miles (owned it from the beginning) and haven't had any problems. If you want a commuter and aren't into cars, get anything that gets you ~40mpg on the highway. The Japanese cars will be a little more expensive because people perceive them to be more reliable, but I think pretty much any mainstream/ economy car is reliable nowadays (not the high performance German or American cars though).
CPO Hyundai Sonata. you get a warranty that lasts for 10 years/100k miles. If you want some additional comfort you can step up to the Azera, you can get one for possibly 13k, it comes standard with leather and heated seats. It is a larger car but I get 32 mpg on the highway with mine.
If you get the newer design 2015 Sonata though you might get up to 40 mpg

If the OP has 8-13k to spend on a car, there are MUCH better options available...better as in nicer to begin with and should remain more reliable over time.
