the cars will all have meatsack detectors, so they'll know to avoid a motorcycle.

I think you’re missing the point of a motorcycle. People ride them because they want even more engagement with their vehicle and surroundings, not less.

Pointless to debate. Driverless cars will never be the norm.

I think this could be part of why new motorcycle sales are down. I see tons of used motorcycles for sale online.

My two bikes were bought used even though one was brand new. The person rode it once, did a light drop and decided two wheels were not enough. Pure luck for me because it didn't even have a scratch on it.

I personally ride for the thrill so not being in control would defeat the reason why I ride.

Yeah, just like mobile phones will never replace landlines, streaming services will never replace physical media, cars will never replace horses, and so on and so forth.

I notice people only compare things that are already successful after the fact. Notice nobody ever compares this stuff to hydrogen cars, Segways and Google Glass. Just because something is new doesn’t mean it’s a forgone conclusion it will become the norm. That’s just blind optimism.

And most of those things like the Segways and Google glasses and hydrogen cars were a fad how many hydrogen cars you see on the road and how many people wear the google glasses, or drive a Segway now days.

You didn’t get my point. Those were things promised to be the norm that failed. Just because something is new doesn’t mean it takes off. People only remember the stuff that did become successful which statistically speaking is a much rarer event.

Some things become the norm but don’t ever completely replace the older technology. Like sailboats for example. Nobody today can say what technology will succeed tomorrow, especially based on just a handful of rare technology breakthroughs. There have been far more technologies that failed to catch on. All we can do is hope and speculate.

Lots of people will die before most come around to believe this. There will be driverless cars that mingle with ours, and there will always be problems with them. After more and more die, and the countless "upgrades" to their systems.
