If you have a leather steering wheel, do you like it......and why?
NO! I hate the darn leather wheels!
First thing I do on any car I buy that happens to have a leather wheel is buy a steering wheel cover to cover over the leather!!!!!! That's the cheapest way I found to get rid of the darn things if I like that car.
All of our vehicles have leather steering wheels. I prefer them over vinyl or hard plastic. They're just much more comfortable. Three of them are heated, and leather is an excellent conductor of heat.
I think most people tend to like the leather wheels. It does not get as burning hot like black plastic/vinyl in the sun, and offers a slightly softer and more pleasant texture to grip compared to cars I have owned with plastic wheels.
Bonus is the heated wheel in my Charger! I like heated wheels better than heated seats!
I like them and cannot really find any negatives specific to them. The only car I ever had with a leather wheel that went bad was a decades (20+) old Fiero with well beyond six figures on the odometer. If it had a plastic wheel, that wheel would not have been in good shape after all that time either.
I've only ever had 1 car that didn't have a leather steering wheel, and that was my first car, an 80's BMW.
Leather provides a good grip for your hands, certainly better than plastic. Some of our newer cars have had more exotic materials, like alcantara, but I prefer leather. Alcantara is such a pain to keep clean and looking nice.
I n the 1950s, my Jaguar had a wood steering wheel, and I think the Rover did, too. It had a nice feel.
