My husband got a used truck about a week ago and was checking the brake system and now the truck won't start and we think it is the anti-theft system. He has tried all the tricks and tips on the internet to no avail. We will probably have it towed to the dealership to be fixed. Does anyone know how much this costs? And is there a way to disable this system so it doesn't happen again?
I had a 98 Explorer that would inexplicably refuse to start at random times. It would not even crank. I too thought it was related to the alarm too but it was not. Turned out to be the neutral safety switch on the transmission. Jiggling the shift lever would help.
my 05 grand marquis had issues with the alarm installed in it, i dont know if it was an aftermarket of factory install, but the dealer didnt charge me anything to remove it, though i did have other work done there as well.
I had this happen to my 2006 Hyundai Tucson a few times in the past, took me a while to figure out it was the anti-theft alarm keeping the car from starting! All I had to do was hit the key fob to lock/ unlock the doors a few times and it finally disabled the alarm and I could start the car.
I looked into having the factory alarm permanently disabled, but found most factory alarms are too wired into the system, its pretty much impossible to disable them, but found if I do not use my power locks, it doesnt trigger the alarm, its kind of a hassle, but not too bad.

If this is an immobilizer issue, you may have to replace the key. That can be a couple hundred dollars.
I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee with this problem. Locking and unlocking the driver's door with the key will clear the anti-theft. You have to be careful to turn the key all they way when you unlock.
Since you're tried "everything" this includes pulling the negative off the battery for several minutes and allowing a re-set of the electronics??
