We can take all those Mercedes, BMWs and Volkswagens being made in the southern US and sell them in other countries, assuming the Germans don't shut the plants down.
The US will make a fortune on this.
Spot on. Both BMW and Mercedes has invested Billions into these plants and continue to do so. I know in the BMW Group, there is no plant outside the US that can take up the slack of what is being built in the US. BMW would have to build a new plant from scratch somewhere and that is not easy or fast.
Something to remember is that big business and the federal government in Germany are locked in an even tighter symbiosis than in the US, Germany is more producer-oriented and infinitely more export-oriented. In the event of German displeasure with Trump, the more likely result than plant closures (talk about sunk costs!) is threats not to invest additionally in current US facilities. There is already one German company that has said it will make no further investments until Trump leaves office (Würth).
Of note, Johann Heinrich Heinz of Ketchup fame is also from the same village.
Johan Heinrich Heinz had nothing to do with ketchup. As immigrant John Henry Heinz, he was father of Henry John Heinz, who went from vegetable packing to ketchup to a mystical obsession with the numbers 5 and 7.

In business world works the other way around, restricting (adding taxes) to imports to US means German would need to build in US = beneficial for Americans.
We finally have a president that protects American interest around the world and some are too brain washed to understand that...

But here's the best part. He's introduced tariffs that increase the cost of the raw materials by up to 25% for domestic production and as a result, the vehicles manufactured here won't be as price competitive.
WINNING! MAGA!
Buy more Camaros. At least those are made in Canada and won't be subject to the raw material tariffs.
1. I'd rather have a Kia anyway
2. Anyone in NYC owning a car is an idiot, German car or otherwise. The only logical car in NYC is a taxicab.
3. Germany slaps a 19% tax on all imported goods to "level the playing field" with their domestic goods, all of which are subject to a 19% VAT. Plus, foodstuffs are a "protected category" and have a 17% tarrif. So Germany can kiss my MAGA complaining about us putting restrictions on German imports.
