Ive seen some custom cars lately where they have fairly wide wheels, and they are using low aspect ratio, 'speed' tires, like 40, 50, but they are stretching a narrower tire onto a wider wheel.

I think they do this because from the side, it makes the aspect ratio appear even lower, but Ive always wondered how they can seal the bead when stretching tires out like this, seems like they would have problems with the bead?

depends on the shop, the tire and the wheel. Not something I would ever do though.

Extreme stretch was a big thing in stance 5-10 years ago.

It was done because it could be done. The more extreme the better. Fit a 185 tire on a 9.5" wheel with 45 degree camber and 0.25" ground clearance got you street cred.

So it could make a 185/50 tire look like a 185/20 or even 185/15!!?

I've seen em stretched to the point that the beat area doesn't even contact the lip of the rim and just seats on the barrel of the rim instead.

I'm personally not a fan. I'm more interested in the widest tire I can fit on a rim, which I usually follow the rule of 2" wider than the rim width.

And just a horrible look. The jacked up truck guys are doing it now. 33 x 12.5 on 14" wide wheels... just the dumbest look ever.

The only stretched tire that looks good is what the Outlaw drag classes are doing. I think it's X275 or Outlaw 275 that are stretching onto a 12 wide wheel. The do this to stiffen the sidewall and gain contact patch.

This is dumb. Straight from the other side of the world. I believe VW fans were doing it first. I could be wrong. I know Japan had been doing this for a long time too.

Stanced with zero offset, low profile wheels. This can be dangerous and will void warranty and the tire will wear much quicker.

Some of these cars are riding on 3 inches of contact patch. The rims are damn tilted. Not a good look.

The big trucks are doing it very big. Donk comes from the jacked up trucks. Now the jacked up trucks are putting donk wheels. 30" rims? Wtf or should I say ftw.

Could have used starting fluid to seat that bead.
