Wonder how your tune would have changed if vehicle in question was Japanese, I’m guessing something along the lines of “those POS import trucks can’t compete with domestics”. Be careful, your bias is showing.

In the Full size pickup market the domestic are the best out there just look at the sales numbers especially the F150 witch has been the best selling vehicle in the USA for over 30 years. And since I live in metro Detroit I am biased when it comes to vehicles.

So I'm guessing you do not have comprehensive insurance on such an old vehicle? If you did then you would have the option of filing a claim with your insurance company, or with the city.

I actually do have comprehensive and it's possible to file a claim with the city - but - the transmission guy says it wasn't the pot hole that caused it to fail, that it was just coincidence. He said it's all stripped out and if the city office saw it, they'd say it was obviously just time for it to fail. And I believe he's right.

So, unfortunately, with the tranny mechanic saying it wasn't due to the pothole, and the parts being obviously ready to fail anyway, I don't have a strong case for the pothole having caused the damage. Wish I did. I was ready to go that route, but it would be a losing battle. C'est la vie.
