The interesting thing in the context of this thread is that people all over the country, in very different living situations, feel a desire to drive an SUV for what must be a large variety of reasons. Sometimes it's practicality but a lot of the time it isn't. SUVs apparently hit a sweet spot in the way that a sports car or an actual station wagon doesn't.

Yeah that's a huge difference between the community college I work for, lol! Most of the cars in our parking lot are the old Accords, Civics, and Corollas - many first cars for those drivers. Which is why if you see any Lexus or BMW entering our driveway, those are parked in the paid parking garage lol! I'm just too cheap to park there, and my Honda Accord has a few chips and fine scratches from people walking by with their book bags and whatever else they're carrying.

I would say many who drive SUVs in my area own them because they needed something to pull campers with, while having enough room to take the entire family. There is a lot of camping going on around where I live, and it's not just during the summer - it's all year long. There's also the idea that the SUVs are safer for those who ride in them, as opposed to a tiny vehicle like a Honda Fit. That is probably true. I know my wife would rather take my son in her RAV4 as opposed to my Accord coupe. Crash test ratings aside, there's a sense of security in an SUV that people usually don't have in a regular sedan or a compact car.

There's always one person in the couple who decidedly feels "trapped" and "needs" 3 rows despite having no kids.

I'm not going to regret it. My "SUV" is a Kia Niro Hybrid. 50 MPGs.

I said I was going to Walgreens, not all the other drivers. Do you think I was leading a caravan of vehicles to the neighborhood Wallgreens?

What, are you dense? Or just feel the need to be a general ****.

Nothing at all against Kia but it always makes me laugh when someone suggests an individual's positive experience with a 2 year old car somehow reflects long term reliability...it doesnt.

It always makes me laugh when someone is so dead set on talking down a car manufacturer they ignore or otherwise denigrate independent data regarding the subject. Like the numbers he just provided regarding long term reliability.
