I was driving on an Interstate today going 8 to 10 over the speed limit. Every car that "blew by me" was a BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, etc. No Dodge Darts in the mix.
My question is:
Do these high end cars ride so well they don't know they are speeding?
Are the owners so wealthy they don't care about the expense of a ticket?
To afford a car like that you must be successful which may mean they in their lives are risk takers is that the reason for the excessive speed?
In their lives are they always rushed which goes with the driving speeds?
When designed for autobahn, it’s very quiet and designed specifically to do it. Every person was dumbfounded when I tell them how fast we’re going. That and when having the power, it’s way too easy to do.
If I drive cross country, I have to use my cruise control in order not to speed. With the MB AMG it’s just easy to be driving at 110 and not realize it.
I hope you weren't in the left lane. If you were your the problem, and your dangerous.
He was already speeding. If he was in the left lane that would be the proper lane to pass in. If somebody is going even fastsr that’s their problem and they would be the one’s being dangerous. It’s a Mercedes, not an ambulance.
When I got a new car (2018 Accord 2.0T) it feels much better at highway speeds than my previous car (a 2005). Sometimes when accelerating onto the interstate, I get int he left land and glance down and see I am going 90-100 without even realizing it because the ride is so quiet and the car feels so steady.
So there could be an element of that at play, but I think some combination of OP's hypotheses is probably a bigger factor.
Also, not a big fan of "always" and "never" in threads like this. We have all seen cars worth less than $5000 go 100mph on the interstate, just as we have seen sports cars over $50k going 65 in a 70. And vice versa.
