I was at a car show Saturday night and it was a great turnout with all sorts of cars and trucks from circa 1910 to 2018.
The older cars that had so much styling and flare had round headlights. I don't know if it was the late 70's or early 80's when manufacturers moved to square headlights. Do you remember in 87 when JeeP dropped the round in favor of the square and the fans didn't like it. They are back to and still round today on the Wranglers.
Of course the round V square depends on the type of car but which do you prefer?
I can only think of 2 cars that are produced with round headlights today the Jeep and Beetle.
Are there others?
Do you have a car with round headlights? If so what kind of car/truck?
No other vehicle is more identified with round headlights than the Jeep. They had a disastrous run with the YJ. I believe some headlights now aren't really round. They are just made to look that way.
For a while, since 1939, sealed headlight were all that was legal. Sealed beams came in round or rectangular. In 1983, replaceable bulb units were allowed. In 92, the US allowed H4 bulbs, so that allowed mfrs to make projectors and more complex reflector shapes. 2nd nail in the round coffin. In 2006, the Lexus LS 600 was the first car to come out with LED lights. Final nail.
The last sealed beam was the Chevy/GMC full size cargo van pre-2nd facelift. Somewhere around 2014/15. Square bulbs though.

We have a replica of a 65 Cobra and a 02 JeeP.
I don't know about other manufacturers but GM switched to rectangular headlights on a lot of models for the 1976 model year.
They were still sealed beam so you had to replace the entire headlight if it went out or, more common, caught a stone which cracked it.
Rectangular headlights were an abomination. Not sure if it was the poor quality of the cars in the 70s or the 80s but rectangular headlights in my eyes became synonymous with poor quality all around. Can you even imagine square headlights on this beauty?
