for a 2004 Nissan Frontier XE 4cyl, 2wd, 5spd... want to replace only the front discs. Due to the design I believe the hub needs to be repacked which requires some special tool, that is what I have been told.
Contacted Firestone and they said $800 total.
I want to get a good rotor + brake pad set online (I found one at Rock Auto for $165) and then take it to an indy shop to get it installed. Anyone have experience with this? How many hours of labor do you estimate for fixing new rotors and brakes plus replacing the brake fluid and bleeding the system?

Most shops won’t install customer parts because they can’t warranty the parts and want to avoid customer lawsuits because if the part fails many people want to blame the shop that installed the parts. Places like rock auto are for the people who work on their own vehicles.

Last time I got brakes pads and rotors was on a 4WD Ford Ranger, at our Firestone. It was $140/side. Get quotes from other shops. That one sounds like they are ripping you off.
I'm trying to go by memory, but it seems like the last time I got new pads and rotors for my 93 Nissan pickup, it cost me around $200. That was in a small town where the labor was only $35/hour. It would cost me much more here in the SF Bay Area. I wouldn't feel ripped off at $200 - $250.

Firestone is a complete ripoff. You shouldn’t be paying more than 200 per axle. That should include the repack and seal.
Is there a reason you can’t diy?

Would you buy a steak at a grocery store and take it to a restaurant to have it cooked ? Same thing with you taking YOUR parts to a mechanic to have them installed. They will have no control over anything that might be wrong or defective with the parts, so most shops would tell you to go somewhere else.
Most shops seem to buy parts locally from dealer parts counters or local auto parts stores. The reason repair shops want to provide the parts is because they mark them up for increasing revenue.
