That's just not true. They have 0 import tariffs on cars. You're being played by somebody...

No But better than tariffs:

U.S. companies or other foreign ‘transplants’ were not allowed to be built in Japan by
under Japan’s strict investment laws;
x Each individual imported car was required to be brought to the Ministry of Transport for
two days for inspection before approval for sale;
x Japan’s exclusive ‘keiretsu ‘arrangements between government and Japanese automakers
prevented US and other foreign auto companies from doing business in Japan;
x Japanese auto distribution system was stacked against importers- existing auto dealers
were forbidden to sell foreign autos or to partner with foreign automakers.
x Japan has used automotive technical regulations as a means to protect local markets by
creating excessively difficult and costly regulatory and certification requirements, with
little or no safety or emissions benefits;
x The tax system in Japan was designed to benefit domestic over imported motor vehicle

Japan has long blocked imports with extreme regulations as well as tariffs.

Probably the most ridiculous thing to ask Japanese to buy American cars and US Automakes to make cars that appeal to Japanese market.

For one thing, US does not make good quality compacts. Very little lifestyle cars which caters to Japanese buyers.

In Japan, minivans are very popular. While they may not be as large as American size minivans, Japanese like MPVs and wagons.

Japanese are more pickier than Americans, Japanese car makers produce many different variety of models than here in the US.

I doubt GM or Ford would ever create a vehicle specifically for Japanese market.
What you, and many car companies, don't realzie is that "American" is not an epithet. It's a selling point. If people want to buy a Fiat 500 they buy a Fiat 500. They don't want 1 liter Mustangs. They want firebreathing American V8s.

Let me also add currency manipulation to your list, which has been another tool to pump-up the price of imports.

It is ridiculous, but far from the most ridiculous thing considering it came from Trump. Every day at lunch I open my news app & read the headlines out loud of things he said that morning. My co-workers sit back & laugh hysterically because it's like the things he says are straight out of the Onion. And he says these crazy things every single workday. I keep waiting for Ashton Kutcher to come out & say - "you've all been punk'd America."

If you have no more knowledge than this you are part of the problem, don't be scared, STAND UP FOR AMERICA, tell Japan to pound sand till they open there trade to a level playing field. They need us way worse than we need them.

Sorry I only buy foreign vehicles. They are simply made better! I purchase one brand new American made car once and it died at 80k miles. Forget it! All of the foreign cars we have purchased have doubled that and we’re still running great when we sold/traded them in!
