My apologies if I seemed harsh, although, you know quite well what a hash almost everybody else will make once they start cutting on the wiring harness. Clip here, Scotch Lok there, and pretty soon they let all the smoke out of the wires and then they don't work anymore...


Solder and heat shrink are the way to go, particularly outside the cab, and don't let anyone say that butt connectors or Scotch Loks are good enough. They are good enough until they spend a couple of seasons in the weather, then they corrode and develop high resistance.

There aren't many of us are there? lol

I have seen some hack jobs. I have seen car stereo amps and speakers put in with wires twisted together and nothing but electrical tape wrapped around them. It is mind boggling. lmao

Lot of newer vehicles are adding extra ports in the console for charging phones. I've actually heard that a lot of people charge their phones overnite at home or hotels tho. So likely hood of needing to charge while vehicle not running isn't necessary.

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with an aux. charging port. People have been using 12 volt appliances long before there were cell phones. Where would you plug in your radar detector if you were using the cigarette lighter?

Before rear defrost was standard on cars it was a option there were portable rear defrosters that you plugged into your cigarette lighter to defrost your rear window or you could get a 12 volt portable fan to use if you didn’t have ac also. People think a 12 volt accessory plug is new but been out since the 60’s.
