Hi everyone, would the "final edition" of an iconic car (VW beetle) be worth more than the model from the year prior? Thinking about buying the latest VW Beetle before it gets discontinued. 2018 model is much cheaper this time of year but I see the 2019 edition has a special color and trim and is called "final edition." Just wondering if it's worth buying that one or if both would depreciate about the same?
It will never have any special value. Google around on the "last American convertible" - 200 or so special-edition 1976 Eldorados, I think. And Corvette Pace Car editions, a complete scam if there ever was one.

No good as an investment.
I'd buy it because it's been around awhile and thus more likely to be sorted.
No inherent value, although "finals" tend to have more equipment as they're basically burning through inventory, and they can package it up easier, as they don't have to follow up with similar deals the following model year.
Thanks, the 2018 model is $16,000, the 2019 model about $22,000 at my local dealership. It seems like the whole "final edition" thing is a marketing ploy.

FWIW all lenders look at make and model, NEVER trim. Even if a particular trim more than doubles the base price. There is a reason behind this.
If you're buying for cash, the only person you have to answer to is yourself, but just bear in mind that if you go to sell it, your buyers may not hold the "last edition" moniker with the same reverence as you do.
