Well they are selling that’s all that counts in GMs book and the new 3.6 V6 puts out 309 horsepower and the 5.3 puts out 320 horsepower so not much difference.
The SSR was expensive... nearly $50K MSRP. Even at that price they sold 10K of them in 2004 and 8K in 2005.
The HHR was less than $20K and was selling over 100K a year.
No doubt in my mind that they could've sold more than 20K of a pickup variant if they offered it.

To do that they would of had to reconfigure a way to assemble both versions on the same line and that would cost allot of money for such a nitch vehicle that GM would not recover the investment. Remember GM or any other automaker is not going to make something that not going to sell in the 10s of thousands of dollars, 20k is nothing to GM.

Oops... I have (4) Station Wagons + (4) Utes (at my USA home).
They do the lions share of the work, tho the CTD's and the Mack and Kenworth are available if necessary.

52 mpg with 25 gal tanks = 1250+ miles per fill-up.
Great for road trips, especially in Canada and Alaska.
The Rancheros with dumping flatbeds or utility boxes in Australia were a sight...
for a light weight work vehicle... I really prefer a 4x4 dually Pickup (dumping flatbed with underbody toolboxes) with Straight Axle (frame / HD springs / winch / and pintle hitch). I get 18 - 22 mpg on the 1st gen CTD's (but they ride pretty rough).
If you are toting a few supplies a Ute will do.
Cement Blocks / Sand / Gravel, sheet rock (gyp-rock) better have a pickup. (dump preferred)

No they won’t the automakers are not going to spend millions of dollars to retool a plant to make a low profit vehicle like a mini truck thers no demand for them because they are useless. Just because 50,000 people want one doesn’t mean 200,000 do and that’s the amount they would have to sell in a year to break even I’m talking just one manufacturer.

No automotive manufacturer is going to put that in their mid size truck, get ready to modify it yourself. I guess you don’t understand the automotive industry do you. How many mid size pickups would they sell if they had that size motor. They would rather get a full size for that much horsepower and money. The automotive business is about sales numbers not just a couple thousand but numbers like the F150 that’s what makes them money selling in those numbers not a couple thousand.
