A democracy that’s forecasting policies 20 election cycles into the future might as well mandate teleportation and cold fusion while they’re at it.
Our purple pink polka dot party in power today, "avec" an alliance with the green chartreuse party, love making these statements, but the decision will be made in New York and the Toronto/Montreal corridor.
And they know that. So does Alberta. So do Unions. So does the RCMP. Ain't politics wunnerful???
They drill for it, but don't use it. They could have dirt cheap gas, but they're smart. Being smart got them uber rich.
It just happens to be environmentally conscious at the same time.

They're playing the long game, something most governments know absolutely nothing about.
If or when the oil runs out, they'll be just fine because they've got so much money. They'll be able to live off investments.
No. Not using oil, yet drilling and selling it is not being environmentally conscious. That’s like selling crack but not smoking crack.
They also have one of the largest bicycles per capita. That has nothing to do with cold weather performance and everything to do with the fact the country’s population is mostly urban and gas cars are heavily taxed.
Norway’s economy however is heavily dependent on oil. If everybody followed Norway’s example Norway would starve to death.
Norway also has an incredibly small population to deal with, that cleaned clock in the late 1800's to get the rural unwashed over the North America, by making it easy to LEAVE. Grandparents on both side homesteaded in Minnesota and Ontario as the result. The rural unwashed were streaming into the towns and creating a migrant "problem".
Interesting that today both Norway and Sweden have imported the same problem, 150 years later. I think the smugness of the 70's may have worn off, eh????

It's Norway... they probably wouldn't mind a little warming.
Oil = Crack is an excellent analogy. I'd definitely rather be the oil seller than the oil user.
The seller gets rich, the user ends up hooked and broke.
