I knew this company back in Florida when it was Avera Motors back in 2009. I lived right down the street from this place. Long story short, they promised a car built in Florida (which sounded like a pretty sweet deal during the economic collapse) in return for $2 million in grant money, burned through the cash (and married the politician who gave him the cash), then ran out of Florida with no car and no $2M. They then changed their name to Rivian and set up shop in Michigan.
This cat is an Elon Musk wannabe who has made a living scamming tax dollars while producing nothing. I would avoid this company like the plague.
Pretty concept vehicle. What on earth are they doing with 560 employees at this early stage, and on what funding?
Elite. Elite is funding them. This is simply component to a general puzzle known as the world wide push towards electric vehicles. Suddenly, everyone makes them. Suddenly, funding is available. Suddenly, giant automakers that made nothing but diesels and combustion engine cars shut down their models line up as they plan on switching to electric.
If you will look at only separate pieces, you will ask question like this. If you put those pieces together, you will see the entire mosaic.

LOL. It's not that romantic. They're getting funding from state and federal grants and a handful of speculators.
There is no Dr. Evil in a island volcano secret layer that's bringing together Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffett, Mark Zuckerberg, and the Queen of England together to plot out the world's EV future. Get real man.

The independent EV makers, up to and including Tesla, are tiny hut villages on the mountain of Sleeping Giant Motors. When the major makers decide to take EVs seriously, the indies will be bought up for patents and IP and vanish into the history books. Within 2 years.
The article I read said someone from Saudi Arabia was providing the biggest chunk of the funding. If this venture goes south the owner needs to hire body guards. Maybe a suit of armor?

My thoughts too. 560 is enough to run today's GM.
