Our 01 Subaru was bought for $1200.00 it had roughly a 100k on it. We bought it in 2014 four years later she’s still running and has 333k on it. Admittedly that’s a rare find these days I once bought a car for $50.00 put a battery in it and drove it to the wheels fell off. Again I highly doubt these days that you could find a good car for that price. When I bought my 00 protege I paid 3k for that had 98k on it drove it like a mad man never any issues. Had 198k when I sold her.

In the under $1500 range you can save some money, but the time, hassle, and comfort factors can outweigh the cost benefits. I don't see myself continuously buying cars in that price range...once or twice in a pinch, sure.

Different story if it's doubles as a hobby and you enjoy it.
First 280 was for about 4 years. Never needed any work, but then it just rusted away
2+2 was only 2. I'm still sad its gone 6 years later. $350 on the manifold gasket is all I had to do to it
940 I just got rid of last month after 7 years. Front brake pads and it eventually developed some fuel delivery problem.
240 we only had for a little while
Miata 6 years and counting. Tires, a timing belt, a bad water pump (t.belt was maintenance and I put in a new [ bad ] water pump) and I'm going to do the brake pads this weekend.
