Of those, I would probably pick the Kona or CX-3.

Then again I would most likely choose the Niro even though it doesn’t offer AWD.

Some criteria to consider.
1. Fuel Economy
2. Fun to drive
3. Reliability
4. Cargo capacity
5. Value
"Fun to drive" -- Kona with the turbo is the easy winner here. The others don't come close in handling or acceleration.

"Reliability/Value" -- 10 year 100k warranty on the Kona gives it an edge here, especially with the turbo.

I've owned:

RAV4
Subaru Forester
Jeep Renegade

All are AWD/4WD. All have been good reliable vehicles and reasonably economical. Good in snow and light off roading. Comfortable on road trips.

Of the 3, the Renegade is my favorite. It has the most comfortable driving position and handles very nimbly. It's also the best off road by a wide margin.

That's what I would have thought too. Guess this is why I drive a 22 year old SUV! They just don't make them like they used to. When my car finally has to go, will look at the Kia Soul with a manual trans as a replacement.

We have 165,000 miles on our '08 CR-V. It's been a wonderful car.
I'm going to replace it, probably with a CX-3. I just don't want a CVT transmission. Other than that, I like the CR-V.
Anyone have any experience with what I am saying?

If they imported the CX-3 with a stick, like they have in other countries, I'd also be interested.

As much of a Subaru fan as I am, I also love Mazda’s in this case buying new I’d go with the Mazda 3 instead of a CVT there’s a 6 speed auto with paddles. It’s also the best looking and the most fun to drive out of all of them. It’s a bit underpowered but I’m okay with it for fun to drive factor.
