Plan on purchasing a used car tomorrow. Have two sellers with vastly different cars but both in very good condition...
First car is a 2000 honda accord lx v6. Second owner is selling it and has taken immaculate care of it. All needed maintenance done (timing belt, etc), no rust, fantastic condition. Just under 100k miles.
Second car is a 2007 prius also being sold by second owner, battery pack has been replaced by toyota and is under warranty. Water pump has also been replaced. Car is in great condition overall (not quite as good of condition as the accord but still very clean). No visible rust, all maintenance done on time. Will cost $600 more than the accord. Just over 171,000 miles.
The prius will no doubt get better gas mileage than the accord and I'm more inclined to purchase it. Which would you choose?

Don't buy the accord.
"Despite the Accord's reputation for reliability, the V6 models were plagued by transmission failures and prompted class action lawsuits against the company (4-cylinder models were also affected, but not to the same extent). This caused Honda to extend the warranties for the 2000 through 2001 models to seven years or 109,000 miles (175,000 km). 1998, 1999 and 2002 cars were considered for extended coverage on a case-by-case basis. No formal recall occurred. In Canada, recall letters were sent out to owners who fell within a certain VIN range; this warranty was later re-extended for some owners to seven years in length."

Somebody else on a different forum told me the same thing about that generation of accords. A little frightening. I guess it's a case by case basis whether you'll run into this trans issue or not.
Prius. Do I need to repeat myself? Super reliable and very good mpg. 170K is not much for them. Problem is, it's on smallish side vs Accord. As far as you are OK with low seating and smaller car - Prius hands down.
