I see many getting around beach towns here in golf carts, many tarted up with chrome wheels and other accessories raising the price considerably and they're still excluded from many roads because of a lack of speed. Priced right I think VW's concept could be quite popular along the coasts as a second or third vehicle in many households.

But golf carts are easy for older people to get in and out of. That VW buggy looks a little more difficult.

Different here in NC, a number of beach towns allow their use on city streets and these are towns having many working age folks, not necessarily retirement communities.
also in NC, we live close to a dairy farm which uses electric golfs carts to get around.
the tires have more "aggressive" tread than average and two are modified to haul
feed, hay bales, etc. they ride the public road sometimes, just not frequently.
an electric "dune buggy" could interest the dairy,
since the carts are not that good in deep mud,
and electric power is famous for the torque it produces.
and....since July of last year, we have had constant mud. it has not yet dried out properly.
This might sell in the beach community if the price is right and the wheel base is short (not take up a lot of room).
Golf carts are popping up more and more here on Amelia Island. Some people are really pushing the limits as far driving on the streets and sidewalks. I don't see the attraction.
I'm done buying new cars but I would love to have one.
