Lol. No bro. How many driven miles does it take for the oil to go from full to where you add 1/2 quart
About 2,000 miles, the oil level was OK, I decided to add half a quart. The car has been dealer serviced. I will spent another about $2,000 on maintenance and then give the car to a relative, who is a mechanic.
There is no way in heck that I would put up with an oil leak of any size, making my driveway and garage look like crapola.
The first thing I would do is find a shop to do the repair for less, far less, that $1200. If that is impossible then you have to weight the value and condition of the vehicle against the cost of selling it and replacing it with something in better condition.
Of course the most important factor to add to the equation would be your financial condition. $1200 would make several payments on a better, newer vehicle. I would seriously consider getting rid of a vehicle with 165k on the odometer. At that mileage there are more problems just around the bend and the car then becomes a money pit.
How much can you sell it for, how much cost to replace it need to be considered. You don't need to replace it with a new vehicle and get yourself into another problem if your funds are low, find a better, newer vehicle and get the monkey off of your back. Be sure to have the replacement inspected by a competent mechanic, don't trade for another problem.
It will take some research to find a good, low mileage vehicle, but thanks to the internet you can do it all from your easy chair.
If you continue to let it leak I will haunt you forevermore..! Good luck...

That’s really a minor leak. There are cars that have no leaks and burn a quart every thousand. I would just keep driving it. Unless you need the excuse to spend more buying a new car. I wouldn’t bother spending 2k on it if you’re gonna give it away. Use the 2k for the new purchase give the car to the relative as is. If it was me I would sell it for whatever I can get 3k or whatever. Then apply that to the new car. If your relative is a mechanic he comes across deals all the time
The car could easily go another 40,000 miles. Whats your replacement cost?

Honda Accord, Acura RL(X) or Lexus 460, looking at used, I don't buy new cars! Replace cost? About $15,000!
I agee. Used it on a 2005 Ford Escape. Leak stopped after a few months.
I agree with this. Old seals are hard and brittle. A high mileage oil will stop some leaks and if not stop, then possibly reduce. I've had success with it stopping minor leaks.
Thanks for the input everyone! I really appreciate every post!
