Plymouth Valiant (later replaced by Volare)
Dodge Lancer ( Dart was a more midsized car, owned a '66)
Chrysler had no economy model (in the US anyway)
Studebaker Lark
Rambler was a Make under AMC, with the Rambler American its first "compact" in 1958
I also owned a '66 Dart (GT V-8). It was classified as a large compact or just "compact." The Dodge Coronet (and Charger) for '66 was mid-sized.

My nephew's girlfriend called them, "Ugly, but neat."

The '60-'62 did have odd styling, however, I think the '63 and later had quite good styling. Especially the '66 and later.

Valiant was a Plymouth since 1959. In 1970 Plymouth introduced the Plymouth Valiant Duster (1 year only). Valiant remained a model until 1976 and it was replaced by the Volare and Aspen. Valiant was always a "A" body, Dart could be a "A,B or C" body depending on what year it is.

Visited a Ford dealership when these first came out. New $1,995.00 for the base model.

What a piece of garbage. Ford at it's worst. Junk. Rust buckets too.

The Chrysler Corporation's compact offering to answer the Nova, Falcon, et al, were the Dodge Dart (later Aspen) and Plymouth Valiant (later Volaré) and their derivatives. The Dart had several performance offerings while the Valiant was more of a granny/student car, although the first- and second-generation Barracudas (1964-1/2-1969) were based on the Valiant platform.

I had the fastback volare 2 door with a 318 nice ridding car even had the thin white wall tires and hubcaps. Was working for Chrysler so they took the cheap car payments out of your check a little each week. We got paid weekly back in the early 80’s.
