In 1960 the first of the new Compact cars to compete with the likes of the VW Beetle were:
Ford Falcon
Chevy Corvair & Chevy II (Nova was a trim line of Chevy II, I owned a '62)
Plymouth Valiant (later replaced by Volare)
Dodge Lancer ( Dart was a more midsized car, owned a '66)
Chrysler had no economy model (in the US anyway)
Studebaker Lark
Rambler was a Make under AMC, with the Rambler American its first "compact" in 1958
I also owned a '66 Dart (GT V-8). It was classified as a large compact or just "compact." The Dodge Coronet (and Charger) for '66 was mid-sized.
Plymouth Duster and chrysler had no version. Valiant is Dodge and I think the Savoy is plymouths version.
Valiant was a Plymouth since 1959. In 1970 Plymouth introduced the Plymouth Valiant Duster (1 year only). Valiant remained a model until 1976 and it was replaced by the Volare and Aspen. Valiant was always a "A" body, Dart could be a "A,B or C" body depending on what year it is.
My x mother in law had a Maverick with a inline 6 and a 3 on the tree i loved driving that car. A 3 on the tree is so simple to use he’ll any manual is easy to drive.
I had the fastback volare 2 door with a 318 nice ridding car even had the thin white wall tires and hubcaps. Was working for Chrysler so they took the cheap car payments out of your check a little each week. We got paid weekly back in the early 80’s.
