Default Because I have passed 240,000 miles with the original clutch and never had a transmission issue with a stick

Because I have just passed 240,000 miles with the original clutch and never had a transmission issue with any manual transmission in over 50 years of driving.

Also because a dead battery will never be an issue, a slight push, pop of the clutch in second and I'm going again.

Because driving a manual is more engaging and makes you a more skilled driver.

Also because the expense of clutch replacement is much less then Automatic or CVT work which would be required at 240,000 miles.

Because over all the total maintenance required is cheap and easy. Two pints of oil at $5.00's each every 30,000 miles. total time of oil change less then 15 minuets. No filters, piece of cake.

Also because if the transmission is not abused it should easily do 300,000 without an issue.

Because manual transmissions are becoming anti-theft devices with less drivers drivers today able to drive stick.

I own two cars.

Ones a stick, and ones an automatic.

Never once have I thought about my superiority over others when driving one of them based simply on the transmission present in the vehicle I happened to be in.

That was just my limited budget talking to other limited budget managers about successful experiences with manual transmissions.. I have found a great resource for all the automatic transmission owners.

And for the DIY people.

This is a great automatic transmission website that provides a large number of answers to costly automatic transmission problems and their prevention.

I'm a simple man, so can only drive simple cars. Those new fangled automagic cars just too complicated, when I tried driving one, couldnt find the clutch so almost crashed it. Somebody told me the clutch in an automagic is inside the transmission. Ok, but how do I get my foot in there?

The main reason I like manuals because I'm smarter than the computer when it comes to detecting road conditions. Most automatics never downshifts when going up a curvy bend that requires more revs to put the torque down.

Majority of people thinks they need a 400HP car to beat most cars at the stop light, it's all because automatics with gears set for high mileage and highways do not allow the car to have enough torque at the low end. With a manual you can have a 125HP car and easily beat cars off the line by staying on 2nd gear all the way up to 30~40mph and many cars with double the HP can't keep up because their cars auto shifts to 4th gear.

You do realize that most cars with automatics can be manually shifted?

And the torque converter multiplies the torque in each gear.

Also, I have owned a few '60s Mopars with automatic tranmissions... I was able to stay in 2nd gear up to not only 30 or 40 mph, but 60-70 mph. 1st gear was good up to 40-45 mph, manually shifting.

Ha!!! This is true, but I did almost regret going cheap in Ireland. Shifting with my left hand and driving on the wrong side of the road was a lot to get used to the first couple days.

It's not the same as there is no manual clutch, so shifting is kind of uninspiring.
