The trend is that automakers are reducing their car offerings, and increasing their SUV and Trucks due to demand for them. Wonder why Tesla isn't selling a pick up truck, or SUV? That's where the market has gone.

Ethanol and bio fuels are another good alternative.

They claim they’re working on a crossover and a truck.
However they’re both promised in the same time frame as the semi and Roadster that still haven’t been developed, and their tax credit is shrinking and they just posted a massive loss this quarter (despite having little competition), and they’re burning cash again. They could do another capital raise but their stock price is crashing as well.

Why they didn’t just start with SUV’s and trucks in the first place? I don’t know other than the fact it takes a lot more battery to get a 300 mile range from truck.
Currently none of their supercharging stations can accommodate charging while hitched to a trailer. Trucks were clearly an afterthought.

Not really. I helped a friend convert an old car to biodiesel. The problem was finding used vegetable oil. Veggie oil is far more expensive than gas and used oil is for the most part already spoken for by recycle companies.

Because they all they do is lose money ($702MM in one quarter?? ) and they don't have any!
Watch what happens once the Germans get going. The product cadence is going to be rapid and pervasive.

Insurance and leaf blowers are easier businesses.
A lawn mower with Autopilot...now that's something I'd go for!

Self correcting problem. As history has shown us, anybody who forces gas prices to soar typically ends up inflicting more damage to themselves. Given that Iran is pretty much 100% dependent on gasoline they’ll end up damaging their own economy as well. In the meantime, regional instability forces consumers to look elsewhere for resources (as the oil embargo resulted in proliferation of non OPEC oil sources in the 70’s, driving oil prices down for decades afterwards).

On the flip side for EV’s the vast majority of cobalt required for lithium batteries comes from the Congo. It’s not exactly a cure from foreign resource dependency. You’re just switching dependence from unstable Middle Eastern countries to unstable African countries.

I hope everyone goes electric. It will leave a lot more very cheap gas for me.

Well, they're missing the market then, and it may be that their technology to run SUV's and Trucks isn't there due to the size and weight of these vehicles. If I go to any parking lot today the numbers of SUV's and Trucks is daunting. There is a reason why companies like Ford dropped all cars but the Mustang in the U.S.
