Your rule of thumb makes no sense. And I didn't ask for your advice, anyway. I've leased for 30 years and so far, so good! We already know it's not your cup of tea.
You posted in an open forum. Had you specifically excluded me in your original post, I wouldn't have responded.
Since you are planning to lease, spend some time on leasehackr website in the forums section. They have lots of people sharing great lease deals on similar vehicles. Also, since you are in FL, consider using a lease broker to cut through a bunch of the negotiation challenges, which can be a real hassle with FL dealers, where you are already starting with huge ($999) dealer fees. [There are several good ones who specialize in the FL market.] Lastly, you can lease MB loaner vehicles if they have less than 10k miles, the sweet spot is 3k miles, below which you dont pay a residual penalty, combine that with an aggressive discount (20% off msrp) and you can have a good deal.
Hey, thanks! That website will be really helpful.
My friend in CA told me she uses a broker, so I'll check it out. Do you know how I can find a good one for my market (Sarasota area)? Not sure about the $999 dealer fee. My last lease, there were a whole bunch of fees that magically disappeared when I said I was gonna walk. (It wasn't a bluff, either...I was balking because I didn't like the wheels on the new model of RDX....yes, really, wheels are ma thing.) I didn't even know those fees could disappear, I assumed they were mandatory. I ended up paying $809 cash total, but now in looking at the lease, I can't figure out where that number came from.
Back to the sales guy, he finally texted me a day late, said he'd be happy to take me on a test-drive of a CLA and C, and "we have a great deal going on this month for leasing". Still trying to push that deal, even though I made it clear I have four payments left. Wait til he hears I want to test drive both models, one with 18" and one with 19" wheels. So four test-drives. I think he is going to be too pushy for my liking.
The salesman was told to "push" selling the used car. You wanted to look at a NEW one and when he wouldn't show you one FIRST you should have simply left.Salesmen have been "trained" to lead the customers and that makes you a sucker if you let them.
