The problem I have with cars today is the infotainment system is too limiting. I would much rather have just an empty console there with no Nav or entertainment system and let me choose. They should just license the tech and allow other audio companies make special infotainment units.
I really hate specialized overpriced units from luxury cars because they often difficult to setup and connect. The reason why the OP or anyone prefer CD players because they are easier to use than MP3 or streaming systems.
I really hate dislike Apple Play or Android Play because I don't like the playlist style or the way the music is organized. This is why I think traditional CD changers are better for cars because you can operate with a few controls not like today where you can't just switch out tracks since it's organized via artists / playlists / albums. Too much crap to organize.
Which is why I stream my music via the AUX instead of using Apple/Google Play because I use the App that I like to use instead of having to deal with their interfaces.
For $300 these days you can buy a really good headunit with CD player and supports all of the streaming and apps but you can't install it on most 2019-2020 cars.
2019 Ford Mustang with B&O Playâ„¢ Premium Audio System by HARMAN, if you don't get the B&O Audio it doesn't have one.

I'm not sure where you are seeing that Chevy SUVs have CD players. According to the article below, from March 1, 2018, Chevrolet hasn't offered a CD player in any of their cars except the Impala starting with the 2018 models.
Quote:
Only two 2018 Mazda models and no Chevrolets except the Impala with an upgraded package still come with CD players.
I also went on Chevy's website & pulled up a 2019 Tahoe & a 2019 Suburban (you can still select 2019 or current 2020 models) & I can't find anything that even mentions a CD player for either of them. It's not even available as an accessory. I also toyed around with their 'Build & Price' configuration tool & I couldn't find any CD player while I configured & priced both of them. Even Chevy's cheapest car a 2019 Spark doesn't have a CD player. I also went on GMC's website & the same was true with the 2019 Yukon & Yukon XL.
Sure you can still get the rear seat monitors along with the DVD player in GM's SUVs. I don't know if the DVD player can also play CDs. But there certainly isn't a CD player in the dashboard in any of them.
My 2018 Corvette Z06 also doesn't have a CD player. The last Vette that had one was the 6th generation Vette (i.e. C6, 2005 - 2013 models). The 7th generation Vette (i.e. C7, 2014 - 2019 models) never had a CD player.
Just like the C7 Vettes, which have a retractable touch screen, the screen in the Tahoe/Suburban & Yukon/Yukon XL slides upward at the touch of a button. But just like the Vette there isn't a CD player hidden behind the screen. Behind the screen is a small storage compartment & a single USB connection.
My second Caddy SRX...both with CD, yes single slot, and Bose speakers....We have two homes, both with Bose multi slot CD players.yes I burn extra copies on my PC....
Which is rare, since I mainly use my IPAD
I would not buy a new car with a good audio.....radio gets boring
Having attempted it a few times with my 3000+ CDs to rip both to lossless and lower-fi for portable players, I can attest that one needs a strategy and a lot of storage and a lot of time for this.
Taking a CD into the car, just a wee bit easier. But trolls gonna troll.
They have services that will do this for you.
