So the Carfax shows my car was bought by the dealer at auction. All the dealer told me was the grill was replaced...I inspected very carefully and no signs of front end damage but it got me thinking...

Is there anywhere that stores data on cars sold at auction? Ie - photos, why it was an auction etc?

Does this exist in any capacity?

Google the vin. May turn up the old listing. There are even a couple sites out there that archive auction listings exactly for that purpose...but charge a small fee to share the photos. https://autoauctions.io/

Hers a auction to check out.

A sheriff's office in northern Michigan is auctioning some rare muscle: a 1969 Plymouth GTX convertible.

Leelanau County Undersheriff Steve Morgan says the car probably was stored for decades. The odometer shows less than 21,000 miles. The two-door GTX is known as a muscle car for its powerful engine.

The car was abandoned in a storage building that has changed hands a few times, northwest of Traverse City. Morgan says investigators searched the vehicle's identification number but couldn't find an owner.

The car will be sold as-is to the highest bidder. The online auction at MITN Surplus Auction starts Wednesday and runs through June 18.

Don't have information needed.

But all car auctions are operated by private companies. They may or may not keep records of transactions. But even if you do get the name of the auction company - that many not help is your search.

Google the VIN and see what comes up if anything.
