Car manufacturers are eliminating oil drain plugs in oil pans and dipsticks in both the engine and transmissions of new ICE cars.

Would the lack of a drain plug and or dip stick influence your car buying decision?

A point of leakage and it just means you have to be equipped to do a dipstick drain, which is only needed now every 12-15,000 miles. Non issue.

YES! A drain plug is needed to get the maximum amount of dirty oil out of the crankcase at oil change time. If a car starts using oil, the idiot light won't turn on until it's too late. These items together cost probably no more than a few dollars to include on a car. There are so many unnecessary items stuck on cars these days, removing things like these is ludicrous.

Yes, for the reasons outafocus noted.

This sounds like yet another way to prohibit owners from changing their own oil.

Perhaps you should have created a poll. Two of my cars have neither oil drain plugs nor dipsticks because they are BEV. I do topside vacuum oil extractions on my old TDI and I do oil changes the ole fashion way on our Duramax. No ramps or jack needed on for the truck with plenty of clearance.

Time will tell which is better, but it is an interesting idea.

Maybe I should have asked the pros and cons of not having oil drain plugs or dip sticks on ICE engines.

Or more to the point.

Will a car with drain plugs and dipsticks on the engine and transmission outlast the same make and model
that does not have them?

The OP speaks of the dipstick being eliminated as well as the drain plug. What then?

Would you please point out what vehicles are coming without drain plugs.
