Why does driving old car cause body ache/muscle stiffness?
================================================== ===

Thanks for your replies to my thread.

I find body ache/muscle stiffness after driving old car (1999 Camry ) for longer than 40 min. I maintain recommended tire pressure.

We know our roads are getting rough.

What are the mechanism built into the car that prevent body ache/muscle stiffness?

Thanks for sharing.

Just like the furniture in your home car seats wear out. You are talking about a 20 year old seat, and the foam inside is crushed and probably broken by now, making it hard to your body. Comfort sells, so the newer cars will have more comfortable seats than a 1999 with improvements made in the technology and materials.

^ replace the foam in your seats.

Not that difficult to do yourself, especially in an older car without seat mounted airbags. Otherwise find a local upholstery shop.

Worn seat cushions, bad struts and springs, worn out bushings, bad roads, and worn out human body.

Or more likely the tangible reasons given in the other replies.

Many old guys on these forums swear by old cars with saggy seats, solid rear axle, drum brakes, rust-food, deathtrap architecture and suck gas like there's no tomorrow. I'm an old guy myself, but other than nostalgia for the looks of a few old models, I don't miss the old cars - they were primitive, and new cars function better in every way.

Old cars are great fun when you take them out for a slow, smooth drive on a sunny Sunday afternoon, or ride down to the local cars & coffee to show them off. You couldn't pay me enough to daily drive something more than 15 years old though.

The advancements in safety, technology, and comfort in just the last decade are astonishing.
