I dont seem to recall any apology from him except for odometer discrepancies on some test cars tat were sold to the public. One of my old friends still has his 79 Cordoba, dark red inside and out and that big 400 Chrysler under the hood. Damn fun car to ride in.
Ah, the Córdoba, Chrysler’s “small car” of the mid-70’s.
An interesting man. I his book back in the 80's. The Plymouth dealerships were giving them away with a test drive. I forget it's title, but of course it was about his auto industry history.
Teacher says each week she will let a student off for the day if they can answer a history question.
First question is who is the Father of our Country?
Japanese exchange student named Yiro answers: George Washington.
Teacher says you have the rest of the day off.
Next week. Who did America fight in the War of 1812?
Japanese exchange student named Yiro answers: England.
Teacher says you have the rest of the day off.
Next week. Who signed the Emancipation Proclamation?
Yiro raises his hand.
From the back of the room the teacher hears "fu@# the Japanese".
Teacher says who said that?
Student stands up and says Lee Iacocca in 1978 and I will see your tomorrow.
I was working at Chrysler when he was in charge, worked at their Warren truck assembly plant in Warren Michigan. Then i went to work at their Newark Delaware assembly plant when the K-car started production. Our plant made the 4 door and the wagon Dodge Aries, and the Plymouth Reliant. We were using their 2.2 motors and the Mitsubishi 2.6L that was called a Hemi also. They were making 75 K-Cars an hour on 2 shifts. Jefferson assembly is where the also made the 2 door and 4 door also this plant is now home of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. And back then Chrysler gave every hourly employee 50 shares of stock. This was in 1981 they were using the cradle from the Omni and Horizon but when they stuffed the engine in from underneath the cradle opened up and a couple of cars fell on some workers. Made both manual and automatic transmission versions.
The chrysler cordoba was a full size luxury car like that of the imperial. You might of meant the Dodge Dynasty or the Chrysler 5th Avenue.
From Wikipedia:
The Chrysler Cordoba was an intermediate personal luxury coupe sold by Chrysler in North America from 1975–1983. It was the company's first model produced specifically for the personal luxury market and the first Chrysler-branded vehicle that was smaller than full-size.
By today’s standards it was a boat, but it was marketed in the 70’s for being nimble and smaller.
Are we forgetting the exploding the gas tank? Are we forgetting the man who held people to the 2000 rule despite knowing they were producing an unsafe product?
With all I've seen around the Net about him today, I am just hoping that people don't know about that.....and it isn't a case they are overlooking it.
