I have owned & been driving my 85 olds since 5.1996 (didn't drive from 04-09) & it runs great. The milage is 134,200 & I got car with 91k miles. I have mostly driven car in town & gotten horrible mpg but now that I drive mostly freeway i get better mpg ( OD tranny). my car gets a combined 18 mpg (in 1985 it was listed at 15/19). Not bad for a 34 yr old daily driver.
Awesome dude, long live the B-body (or you have one of the early FWDs which came out in 1985?)
One of the worst ideas was a Caddy Seville with a diesel, along with the Eldo. They just used a converted gas engine block 350 to a diesel, it was horrible, slow, nasty, loud, with all kinds of internal and external problems - what a bunch of wasted GM technical talent.
I agree 100%, however I once read a post which claimed GM released a FWD 4.3 Diesel around 1985/86 which he got some ridiculous amount of miles of in a FWD C-body Deville (like 200K). Supposedly that version worked. According to Wiki, such a motor did in fact exist for one year:

Delta 88s weren't ruined until '86. 85s were still traditional quality RWD Oldsmobiles. You may be thinking of the 98, which was ruined a year earlier along with Cadillac Deville and Buick Electra with transverse FWD for '85.

I still think fondly of my two Oldsmobiles: the silver-gray '89 Cutlass Supreme with the 2.8L engine, very quick, which I drove to New Mexico in '93; and the '94 Cutlass Supreme in gold, the 3.1 engine (I think). It went with me to CO in 1997 and took me all over the Front Range until I traded for my first Mercedes, the '84 280CE. The only problem with the golden Olds was with the A/C: It was the first year of R-134 refrigerant, and GM's A/C systems didn't cool as well with it. Though in CO, with much lower humidity, it was not a problem.
Except for the terrible '84 Ford Escort, all of my American cars have been fun to drive, inexpensive to maintain and repair, and reliable.
