Word is, Honda will be adding a hybrid powertrain to the 2020 CR-V, but that powertrain won't be sold in the US until next year.

That's good they brought the Escape Hybrid back. It was weird they had the C-Max which didn't sell well, then they just went without a hybrid hatchback.

I had a C-Max and Ford's hybrid system is great

Nor is the CRV or Escape, they are CUVs.

The Toyota Highlander which starts at $37,000 is one of the real SUV hybrids, as is the Mitsubishi Outlander starting at $35,795.

AWD on the highlander uses an electric motor to power the rear, it is not full-time AWD. That's why it's called i-AWD, it is completely electric. Only comes on when slip, it is really just an FWD SUV.

How do you define SUV?

Although the Highlander and the Outlander are larger than a RAV4 or CRV, they are still crossovers (CUVs). True SUVs are built on truck platforms, and CUVs are built on car platforms.

I agree, in which case there are very few real SUVs, but common usage has changed the definitions over the years. Really most of them are simply a station wagon with 4wd, except for the Expedition, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Escalade etc.

I have seen CUV defined as Crossover Utility Vehicle and also as Compact Utility Vehicle. Then there is the actual station wagons now called a Shooting Brake. Like this:

Subaru is bringing back a Crosstrek hybrid for 2020- MSRP is $35K. It's definitely in the CUV range, but if you only need 4 seats and don't tow things, it does what it does cheerfully and well.
