Just had the oil changed and new tires put on my VW EOS. Got a few more small items to take care of and one BIG item which is replacing the water pump. Trying to hold off until absolutely necessary as it’s over $1000 at the stealership.

Default I thought a $1000 was an exaggeration for that water pump.

I thought a $1000 was an exaggeration for that water pump. Here's what the NAPA car replacement calculator came up with. It has got to be a real bear getting that water pump out of there for that kind of money. I do a coolant replacements on my car each 30,000 miles as per the owners manual and replaced the water pump at 159,000 miles as a preventive maintenance measure. I'll do it again at 300,000. less then 60,000 miles to go we'll see.

1) scheduled maintenance
2) top up fluids and tire air myself
3) get it fixed when it acts weird or makes funny noises
4) got it looked at after hitting a concrete block/brick/rock that was in the middle lane of an interstate, to make sure it was not damaged. They replaced the water pump and timing belt since I am at over 80k miles.
5) Any repairs needed to pass safety inspection

I thanked my car for her many years of dedicated service and requested it continue. Nice car.
