I just heard about this the other day (and realize I have seen this happen numerous times...I just assumed they were having engine trouble, I didnt know they did this on purpose)

Whats even worse, they actually pay for the ability to do this, (by way of a device that pumps extra diesel fuel into the engine, so it burns off as thick black smoke).

I watched a video of some guys doing this ( and noticed this seems to be mainly teenagers and younger people doing this), they think its hilarious to blow black smoke out the side of their truck on pedestrians, people on bikes, into other peoples cars, etc!

I heard a reporter, who was doing a story on this new trend, give the best description on this and the kids who enjoy doing it..."I think I have this right, its now cool to drive around in your big $50K diesel pickup truck and blow smoke looking like a steam train from the 1880s"!!

Something tells me, whoever thought this up, didnt really think it thru very well!!

It's a trend that's been around for years now.

When ever I see some pickup doing that, one word comes to mind. Redneck.

I don’t do it on purpose. Mine will kick up some smoke until the turbo starts to give some boost. Rolling coal in a pinhead activity.

Total fail on "new trend" in the OP's thread title...it's been around for quite some time.

I remember seeing people do this in the late 1970s/early 1980s. It has been around a long time.
