Hello All,
While changing engine oil, I noticed the side of pan was wet. Upon further inspection, I noticed a missing oil pan bolt. A year ago I had my now fired mechanic replace the timing chain cover seal, which is right on top of the pan. He removed it to get the RTV in easier(I can see his messy repair), then probably lost the bolt.
At any rate, I can't find a replacement anywhere.
This is the pan, upside-down of course. The missing bolt is at the very bottom of the pic, in that corner:

If anyone can direct me on how to find one, I thank you in advance.

Have you checked with the dealer? If they don’t have them, they can probably give you a part number so you can look for the correct bolt. Take another bolt out and take it to auto parts and see if they can match it?

Take one out, take it to the hardware store, get a replacement. Only need to match the threads and length, you can use a different head type since you'll only be installing it once and needing a different wrench once isn't a problem.

Just as soon as I buy a longer ratchet extension I shall.
TY

There is good chance it's missing because the threads are stripped. Any decent hardware store should be able to match that up for you with one that will work if not an exact match. Make sure to take one of the other bolts with you.

Before I go to the hardware store, I will insure the threads aren't stripped on the pan itself; using that second screw removed.

If this idiot of a mechanic did that, he's replacing the pan...big job too.

Be sure it's missing and not broken off flush with the block. Can you poke a small screwdriver in the hole to verify the shank of the bolt isn't still there?

Yes, will do so next time I put car on stands.
I definitely saw threads yesterday in open hole, but certainly don't wish to push a broken piece into the pan.
Thanks for the tip, will duct tape screwdriver to extension...so I can reach.
Also still trying to figure out why there's a ton of red RTV sealant just above it where a mechanic supposedly replaced the timing cover seal a year ago.
Considering he undercharged me on a huge job, am wondering if he simply patched it from the outside.
He even told me he took a shortcut.

I'll take a pic next trip underneath and post.

The pan doesn't have threads, the threads are in the block.

The fix, if the threads are stripped, is to Heli-coil the hole. Have done it many many times.
