Y'all do know that diesels are basically slaughtered as I type? And the trend eventually will reach the US. So will be ICE, just wait till China does shut any combustion engine down.

And that every manufacturer of any importance now has electric pretty much anything.
You do know that, right?

These engines seem to make full size trucks the perfect combination of utility and practicality. You get a large car-like interior with all the features and about the same fuel mileage. I think these economical diesels also have as much power as one really needs - 0-60 in 7.x seconds is fine...especially for a truck. I’ll gladly take 30+ mpg and 450+ torque over 400hp/19 mpg. Maybe we will see a 40 mpg full size diesel within the next 5 years.

I’d like to see these engines offered on lower priced trim levels. Ram is the only one doing that so far and I bet they’ll sell as many as they can make.
I'd be happier to see it on something like a Subaru Outback or other midsize/compact SUV/CUV's. But now I sound like Statler and Waldorf or JDM fanboys that's kvetching about the cars you can get in other countries.

I don't see electric cars killing ICE. At least, not until range/refueling time is drastically improved. Something more like Chevy Volt is more likely.

Do you really think people will tolerate not being able to take a camper or boat to their cabin 5, 6 hours away? Not being able to get to Grandma's house six hours away for Thanksgiving?

If electric was the answer, why aren't trains all run on electric? They aren't; short commuter rail only. Electric-Diesel is what they do for bigger loads.

So is Electric coming to the table? Of Course. Is it the only one seated there long term? Doubtful.

The article said they towed them 1,000 feet. What if you need to go farther than that?

The only electric truck I care to run is my radio controlled Traxxas E-Maxx from Tower Hobbies.

I wouldn't buy this particular combo. It's very "niche" in there hasn't been a big take on the Titan XD's and the Ram EcoDiesel's. If you're seeing a few in your area, it's because there are a few in your area. That's not what makes or breaks the resale value over time.

Keep saving another year and buy that 2500-series or higher with a larger displacement diesel engine. You will not regret it.
