Coming from a 2010 CRV, the 4Runner may come in way over the OP's budget. Compact SUVs have grown a lot since 2010. The current RAV4s are looking like a Highlander.
My 2018 CRV feels and looks much larger overall than my 2002 CRV. The back seat is MUCH roomier and has more leg room. The front seat feels more like a full size SUV than my old CRV. Maybe check out a new CRV first if you liked the old one. Next size up is the Pilot, but it seems much heavier and just like a giant SUV.
Santa Fe, Explorer, Forester, Rogue, etc are the same size as the new CRVs
You had a 2010, but have you looked at the NEW CRVs ? My BIL just bought one and it's AWESOME.
It's got a known defective 1.5T engine.
It's a very long way away from anything I'd call "AWESOME".
And then there's the Pilot/Passport, which use the much maligned ZF 9hp automatic.
It's not the first egg they've laid on slushboxes, either. Honda powertrain, not what it used to be.
I'd get the Highlander and avoid the ZF transmission or any CVTs.
Or buy a truck based SUV.
The Honda Passport, Ford Edge, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Volkswagen Atlas (two-row configuration), Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Edge, Chevrolet Blazer, and Nissan Murano are all two row CUVs that are larger than a Honda CR-V.
The Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Kia Sorrento, and GMC Acadia are CUVs that aren’t much larger than the aforementioned vehicles but come with three rows.

I don’t believe the Atlas has a two-row version. I just checked out the Atlas and it is pretty big....belongs in your second grouping.
I wanted an Element, but I was not able to find any decent ones, there were a handful available in my area, but they all had well over 220K ( I wanted something under 90K).
Im really surprised they stopped making the element, seems like alot of people love them, they had enormous interiors, probably more headroom than most full size trucks and suvs! They stopped making them in 2011, so pretty hard to find a used one that still has alot of life left.
