I know that eventually someone will either start merging EV drivetrains into existing cars or will start making complete bolt in retrofit kits
Wouldn’t mind having a EV drivetrain but I can’t see spending 70,000 dollars on a EV truck. I would want theEV drivetrain to have readily available parts off the shelf
LA Times ran that same article, interesting, too expensive for me and too electronics complicated for the backyard hot rodder.
A car refurbished car easily run 30/50,000. If I could find a wrecked Tesla cheap I would make my little GMC electric. My issue would be parts as a Tesla wouldn’t sell me any.
China is ahead of Tesla on EV battery factory capacity, and is rushing to add more. It's easy to imagine them making generic battery replacements for Teslas, and of course they'll be cheaper than Tesla's price.
There is a company in Texas that will take any automobile - usually from the 50's and 60's - and put a complete new drivetrain in. All new current big block engines and transmissions. Airbags. Basically a modern car but with the original body and interior.
All costs a lot of money. And the market for such is small but real.

That's what they said about EFI and electronic ignition, too, but look how we are now. EV West is a backyard hobbyist turned manufacturer of parts, and if you ever watch Rich Rebuilds on You Tube, Rich goes into detail how he rebuilds Teslas and modifies them from the ground up from wrecked cars. It's NOT too hard for the backyard hobbyist, it's just too hard for YOU.
I'd love to put a 9" electric motor and modded powerglide in my '63 Mercury Comet, with Tesla batteries. Faster and quicker than the car would have been with the stock V8 and a cool conversion, to boot.
