The issue has nothing to do with children and everything to do with not wanting to compete with the Consumer Electronics Show which has become a sort of auto show in its own right.

I work as an analyst for a major automaker. Children have absolutely nothing to do with this change. Auto Shows are dying a slow death. It used to be people visited them to shop for different cars, or see a lot of cars in the same place. Now most people do that on the internet from the comfort of their homes. They can then narrow it down to a few vehicles and go see those in person at dealerships.
It's not just the Detroit show either. All of the major global auto shows are seeing declines, and more and more automakers are skipping them. It's just a sign of the times.
Also, you may notice that automakers are choosing to hold special press events to debut new vehicles instead of doing this at auto shows. This way they don't run the risk of a competitor overshadowing them with a surprise announcement, and they are pretty much guaranteed to dominate that news cycle in the automotive media.
It's in Las Vegas every January - it's the largest electronics show in the US and one of the biggest trade shows in the country. About 175K people attend and it takes the entire LVCC as well as space at 8 other venues across the city.
Same thing at the NAIS they have their charity black tie event.......
Yes, in the 1980s the Black Tie event was the best option, guys needed a Tuxedo and the Ladies needed a Ball Gown (or similar) but tickets were only $50 each and were tax deductible. Crowds were small and well behaved, extended access to the cars was nearly guaranteed. In recent years the cost per ticket exploded, will be $400/person in 2020, the crowds grew at an equal rate, and for many of us there is no longer a usable Tax Deduction.
Maybe my mistake was going during the middle of the day. You know, when it is warmer outside, and it is easier to see the street signs and Parking signs in the daylight, and the Police have a stronger presence to assist you if necessary for whatever reason.
Alas, the show in Novi this weekend will not have any Volvos or Subarus on display. Genesis is listed as an exhibitor but their Dealership/Service network is non-existent in Washtenaw County. 'Maybe' a Genesis brand vehicle can be serviced by a Hyundai Dealer, many Genesis Dealers are sell Hyundais too, but maybe not. I can foresee that warranty work would definitely be an issue with 35+ mile drives to either of the two closest Dealerships - Dearborn or Wixom.
Of course Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, and Rolls Royce will be on display.

It appears this is not my show.............
Don’t forget the Novi expo center is not as big as Cobo hall is and so you won’t be able to get all the automakers under the Novi Expo roof. It’s not a major auto show. It’s like Autorama in size i think the Novi expo center is called something else now i use to live in Milford and that’s what it was called when i lived there. Now i think is called Suburban Collection Showplace.
The old Novi Expo Center was demolished a few years ago. It also served as the museum for the Novi Indianapolis Race cars. I am not sure where those cars are now located.
The new exposition hall is the Suburban Collection Showcase located a mile down the road. I was there for a Professional Conference/Seminar last year. I attended today's monthly car nut meet-up at the Ypsi Garage and got two free tickets to the Show! These will save me $20, so I will only need to pay for parking and refreshments.
