I was watching a non American video yesterday on how to choose a good battery.
Bring your own scale.
Battery should have approximately 2.8Kg of weight per 10A/hr listed. So, a 60A/h battery should weigh 6x2.8=16.8kg. More=better. That's 37.3 lb.
Basically, the heavier the battery, the better it is.
Also, if you can, check out internal battery resistance as, ones with high resistance, will go bad faster.
One he shows in his vid lost 25% of its charge in 3 months just sitting on the store shelf.
Batteries in the USA are all made by one of three companies. Their top of the line batteries are all very good quality and roughly equal. The mid level batteries are all decent and all roughly equal. The cheap ones are all junk.
At any given level if the price is the same, pick the color you like. there really is no significant difference between them regardless of marking BS.
Actually, I WILL bring scale. And I WILL weigh same batteries. Guy got me going and I am the type that WILL do this, no matter what boys in green shirts think of me.
I guess by their standards, any lead acid battery would qualify providing it carrys the same amount of electrolyte. And there's the problem. An AGM battery will carry more electrolyte than a plain lead acid. You're going to start seeing lithium car batteries and they are considerably lighter- what then? How about the one of the newer calcium batteries- they are also lighter. Works great if this was 1950 but those days are gone. As stated above, there are just a few battery makers for cars. Pick one, any one that stands behind the warranty. The battery is only as good as the company that stands behind it. That's why I always buy a Walmart battery, the best they have. The one in my Bronco is now 13 years old and is the only battery for it I paid money for. Otherwise, Walmart has replaced it a couple of times over the years. My cost to use it by the month is mere pennies. I never have had an issue with Walmart replacing their best battery if it goes bad. Delco, Interstate, Exide, I've had issues with and warranty seems not to exist when you have issues. All you get is excuses. You go weigh your batteries. I'll go to Walmart and not have to sweat it if it goes bad.
Nope. reason he weighs batteries is because manufacturers save on led. Large grey battery he uses as example of good one - runs for 6 yrs with little performance degrading - has more weight per CA/h factor than 2.8Kg.
He's not concerned with CCA. he's concerned with too fast battery deterioration.
As stated below. There are three companies that make all of the batteries. The retail brand names are virtually meaningless.
