If you only replace one however, you might be asking for trouble. The difference in height in those to tires is 0.9 inches, and a difference of a little more than 3.1%. That's not a ton, but enough that is is possible long term usage will damage the differential. It is impossible for us to know how far would cause troubles. As a personal guess, 300 miles would be fine, but that really is just totally a guess. Finally, while its probably within a tolerance that the sensors are ok with, its not impossible that the difference in height will throw off a speed sensor which could cause problems for ABS or stability control. Again, I'm not saying that will happen as i don't know what the sensors have built in for allowable difference and suspect all will be ok, but I wouldn't totally rule it out.

BINGO, especially if you have a vehicle with a limited slip differential, or an AWD vehicle!!!

But at this point I'm only concerned with the WHEEL- if I get a new tired the correct size can I use the wheel that came with the wrong size 225/60/r18? Or should I scrap that too and get a NEW WHEEL and a new Tire that work with 225/55/r18

Ssme wheel or no? Thanks

If it's just to be used as an extra spare wheel / tire spend $100 and buy a steel wheel .... much cheaper than having to spend thousands of dollars to fix your drivetrain.

Call up tire rack and ask them; they have experts on wheel/tire fitment ... or go on your car's particular Subaru forum

Yes. You’re going to a slightly lower height tire but slightly more width. Overall the change is pretty insignificant. It should fit fine. Your speedometer may be off by a mile or so but they aren’t 100% accurate anyway.

No. Both tires are 225, same width.

One will be slightly shorter than the other (aspect ratio/sidewall height).

Yes, as stated before, the wheel will hold the tire just fine. What I probably should have mentioned before though is not every wheel that holds the same size tire will fit your car. The bolt pattern and offsets have to be correct as well. So, if you know the wheel fits, and it has a different tire, take off the tire on it and put the correct one on and you are good to go. If you don't know if the wheel fits, you need to figure that out.

The wheel should work with both tire sizes, but what posters are saying is do not use different tire sizes at the same time. If you're replacing all the tires to match, it's fine and you can continue to use the same wheels. If you're only getting one tire and it'll be mismatched form the others, it may cause damage to your differential.

When you look at tire sizes the last number correlate to the size wheel it'll fit (so a 225/60/18 is on an 18inch wheel and a 225/55/18 will also be on an 18 in wheel).

So yes, both tires will fit, but make sure all the tires are the same size.

Maybe. Was that wheel also on a Subaru like yours? The new tire will fit on that wheel but the wheel may have a different bolt pattern or offset (https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...jsp?techid=101) and not fit your car.
