From a recent article in The Economist:

"When Anna Scott left her Honda Jazz in a commuters' car park outside Oxford on 1/10, she had little reason to think that criminals would take an interest in her 12YO car. Yet the next afternoon a group of shifty characters were spotted sawing off the catalytic converter. Such incidents have become more frequent across Britain as the prices for palladium and rhodium metals contained in the devices, have rocketed. The price of Rhodium has risen 63% in the first three weeks of January alone, to $9850 an ounce, around 6X that of Gold. There is no telling when it will fall back to earth."

Any worries?

The price of palladium is at an all time high.

Keep your cars in a locked garage.

I'm seeing rampant cat theft in the various car groups I'm in. Happening even in broad daylight in shopping centers.

Go search for catalytic converter on facebook marketplace. Bet you turn up a bunch of buyers. Some even put a picture up like a menu with prices and have websites like "cutthecatoff".

Not gold and precious metals. Like the market is expecting a downturn or something.
