I know it's crazy out there but this is the best time to go out cruising without traffic jams and morons on the highways.

Until your buggy breaks down in a town without hotels or restaurants....

Yeah...
Except my Merkur is stuck in storage an extra two weeks due to the shelter in place order.
It's at the county fairgrounds. Hopefully the lockdown doesn't get extended and it can escape.

Just open the doors and walk away for an hour. We'll take care of the rest!

I am self hibernating but I do take leisurely drives. I do not get out of the car unless remote from others.

Of course, you have to still weigh the risk of a breakdown or an accident (especially the latter) and the potential issues with hospitalization or emergency care.

Traffic was greatly diminished when I went out to fetch some food.

Oh, of course, but you can still have a single car accident or some idiot on a cell phone still T bone you at an intersection. You can easily tell a LEO to pound sand if you get stopped while going for a run, but I also feel like you just could easily get a flat, meet someone who has it, spread it to someone if you then have it and don't know, etc. There are so many scenarios, and sure, we can hurt ourselves accidentally at home and need to be rushed to the ER, but the point I'm making is to do the best we can to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus, or in an indirect or direct way impact the capacity of health care workers to assist those who need help the most. I get it that the chances are slim but why take the chance for no reason other than "I wanna do what I wanna do"?

In many areas there are bans on non-essential driving that were not being very enforced, but do have a stiff penalty if they do want to start to enforce it.

Short of setting up roadblocks everywhere, just to ask drivers where they're going, this in unenforceable.

The rural interstates in my area, still have a reasonable flow of private vehicles. I don't think they're all going to some far flung grocery store.

I’ve put on a few thousand miles since the CV thing got real, and traffic is DEFINITELY a lot better. Even on my end of it (trucking) it would appear that truck drivers are sitting this one out. Much easier to find parking even in tricky large metro areas, but I still have steady freight. This is a dreamscape! Only place with a normal amount of traffic I’ve been to in the last week or two was Laredo, apparently cross-border stuff is still a big deal. Normal amount of trucks, normal amount of Mexican-tagged cars. I’ve never seen Houston or Atlanta so swift or stress-free! I got Nashville tomorrow which can sometimes be a pain. So we’ll see.
