Somebody makes a small electronic module that repels critters.
I had to put something in my golf cart when I lived in Arizona as a repellent. It might have been mothballs.
If I could find one, I'd post a picture of a rat with headphones on jamming out. Those electronic devices are.. I won't call them worthless, but they're certainly not 100% effective.
Best advice I can give is.. If you get hit.. Repair and use capsaicin tape on the repair.
I'm not saying they wouldn't, or couldn't, but I wouldn't worry about chipmunks anymore than squirrels, unless the vehicle was sitting for a long period of time.

Chipmonks for sure and possibly squirrels. I have a plethora of both. I actually saw a chipmonk exiting the engine area when I opened the hood. Have had the wiring chewed on every vehicle usually parked in the driveway. Had some sort of rodent get up into the air filter housing in both my Camrys and chew the filter and attempt to build nests.
