UPDATE: Winston-Salem police said they found seven children involved in a $1 million car heist on Thursday. Four of those children were taken into custody. The three other children had minor charges that did not warrant an arrest, but police said they will likely face other penalties.

Sad for these kids. They have embarked on a life of crime, some of whom will end up in the slammer as adults, possibly for years. I just hope they don't progress to hurting people.

Shipping containers, headed out of the country, probably the middle east.

The insurance will rise to cover the cost of replacing the cars. This isn't a victimless crime.

They need to throw the book at the kids. Leave the nine year old out of it.

That's right, the general public will cover the loss, one way or another.

No, this isn't a victimless crime.

But...it's possible to get most of the cars back, I bet. The cars will no longer be new, so there will be a loss sustained, but not the WHOLE value of each car.

Cops don't normally leave stolen cars out there for people to benefit from, just because ins. will pay for it.

I don't know what you mean by that statement. Car theft is a very low priority for police today, and has been for at least the past decade. They will give you a police report, and tell you that it is between you and your insurance company

As poster #15 said above, the general public will cover the loss, one way or another. They really should hold the kids parents financially responsible.

This sounds way bigger than a joyride operation. They are stealing cars from dealerships, likely a burglary then the car theft. Hitting some dealerships more than once seems like the cops would want that to stop.

Now add underage kids (no licenses) out driving cars in the middle of the night, literally driving them like they stole them and suddenly the public is in danger.

Holding kids parents accountable? Unlikely..... it's not like these parents are ER doctors working night shifts which is why they don't realize their kids aren't home at night.

Most likely these kids' parents don't have a pot to p!$$ in and are on public assistance. Won't do any good to hold then financially responsible. Criminally responsible, YES!

40 of the 46 cars have been recovered. The kids broke into the garage doors in at least 3 of the dealers and stole customer cars out of the shop. The kids were just joyriding and being dumb.
