I’m a fan of small trucks. With some changes to the power train this could be an interesting vehicle to add to the GM fleet in other parts of the world as well as USA. Not sure of the reliability of those trick fold down sides. Probably better to offer only fixed sides or the option of a dedicated flatbed for commercial orders.
Isuzu and Mazda are producing a Chevy Colorado size truck on the Isuzu designed platform with a 3L diesel 4 cylinder with slightly higher towing capacity than similar size trucks in the USA. This truck is available in other parts of the world but not in USA. While there is no Isuzu dealer network in USA there are Mazda dealerships. Perhaps part of the issue is trying to convert this engine to meet USA emissions standards.

And I’m sure it will be built in China for GM .
SAIC General Motors Co., Ltd. ... SAIC-GM has four major manufacturing bases – Jinqiao in Shanghai, Dong Yue in Yantai, Norsom in Shenyang and Wuhan – with eight vehicle plants and four powertrain plants. SAIC-GM offers over 20 product lines under the Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac brands.
I would love to see GM bring out a EV s10 size reg cab truck with 400hp and 450 lb ft or at least 340hp and 390 lb ft.
Overkill and way overpowered.
Just bring back an S10 sized truck with at least a 6 ft. bed and meets current highway safety standards, with a modern efficient engine and a stick shift. 200 hp/250 lb of torque (give or take) would be PLENTY for a truck like that.

No more gas for me. 6ft bed is too long. 5ft for me.

I agree. I had both a regular cab, S-10 4x4, as well as a regular cab, Canyon 4x4, and liked them both. I was in the market for another vehicle in 2015, and would have bought another Canyon, had they been available in a regular cab version. An extended cab wouldn't have fit in the garage space I have available, as it would be too long, and a regular cab, full sized pick-up would be too wide.
In 2021, $9K is an amazing price for a pickup. Of course there will be sacrifices. But I am sure you can get a lot of things done with this thing for a price that's doable for many in China, which is after all the target market. Most people there won't have $40K to blow on a truck that can do all kinds of things they'll never need. Many years ago I dated a dairy farmer's daughter and her dad used a Ford Courier pickup. There was nothing impressive about that truck, in any department. But it worked fine for most hauling jobs and it didn't cost a lot of money, and since dairy farming can be a tough way to make a living, that was perfect.
