I currently reside here in Wisconsin. Our license plates on our vehicles are BORING! Nothing to them. I thought it may be interesting to try and submit a new design to the state. Now has anyone here ever attempted this in there own state?

Thanks, Josh

The Virginia DMV had a license plate design contest when I was in high school there (10 years ago). I submitted a design, but alas it wasn't selected. The winners that year were the "Scenic Autumn" plate: http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/images/plates/autumn1.gif and the "Patriot" plate: http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/images/plates/fife1.gif

There are also many advocacy groups who hold similar contest for special interest license plates. The Virginia Recycling Association had a contest for a "Virginia Recycles" specialty plate.

I would contact your DMV/MVC to find out if they sponsor design contests for standard plates. Also, if your state's agency offers specialty plates for special interest or advocacy groups (Virginia has over 200 plate designs), get in touch with some of those groups which might find your design relevant to their cause. In VA if you can get an organization to back you and you can pre-order a certain number of plates (I believe it's 600) the DMV will make the plate.

I havent attempted to make a request but I see what you mean even with Wisconsins specialty plates there isnt much variation except with the centennial plate that is no longer available. Special license plates - Wisconsin Department of Transportation

North Carolina was pretty much the same even with the special interest plates they was not much variations until recently
Now you can get a select few plates that a portion of it supports that cause that is represented on the plate. They even offer Nascar Driver plates https://edmv-sp.dot.state.nc.us/sp/graphics/NJG.JPG

In this link I got the Protect Our Coast Plate

Here in Wisconsin our endangered resources still has the dairy state logo but they just put a wolf on the side. They are to bland. I kinda like Michigans new plates.

I like North Carolinas "Friends Of The Smokies" and the "Appalachian Trail", I wouldn't mind spending an extra few bucks a year for a good cause here in Wisconsin, but I want license plates that are worth looking at.

Actually, Texas does have new plates coming.
Residents of Texas had a vote for about a month or two to pick the new plate.
It was out of these plates.

=The Current One.

The winner was.

Me personally, I voted for the bluebonnet one. I liked the winner 2nd. But it's still a pretty good one. I think they will go in affect in 2009 or 2011.

Texas does have some eye appealing plates. I like the one that won. I think it looks nice with the American colors and the scenery at the bottom.
